Masaka Masaka

Masaka Masaka is a Ugandan producer and DJ based in Kampala, known for crafting immersive, emotionally charged soundscapes that merge experimental club music with ambient textures and deconstructed rhythm.

Emerging from Uganda’s vibrant underground culture, he first developed his sound through hip-hop beat-making before pushing beyond conventions in search of something more expansive. Deeply influenced by forward-thinking artists such as Dean Blunt, Arca and Vegyn, his work weaves together fractured percussion, hazy atmospheres, jazz inflections and abstracted melodies into a distinct sonic language.

His acclaimed album Barely Making Much, released via Hakuna Kulala, showcases a dreamlike yet intricate approach to composition, where jagged beats meet melancholic moods, and softness coexists with intensity. Written at the Nyege Nyege studios in Kampala, the record reflects both personal and environmental duality, capturing the tension and vitality of a rapidly evolving cultural landscape.

As a DJ, Masaka Masaka is equally exploratory, blending experimental cuts with club-ready selections to create sets that are unpredictable yet deeply cohesive. He has performed internationally across Europe and Sub-Saharan Africa, including appearances at festivals such as Norient and Nyege Nyege, as well as at key venues in cities like Paris, Vienna, Nairobi and Kampala.

Continuing to expand his sonic universe, Masaka Masaka will release his forthcoming EP XA on Creaked, following a studio session recorded during his visit for the Creaked Radio podcast series in February 2026. The project marks a new chapter in his evolution, further refining his balance between abstraction and rhythmic intensity.
