GuestWorlds is the moniker of Manchester-based producer Fred Baker, a musician active for more than two decades. Known previously as a member of local bands such as Cyril Snear and Five Eyes, Baker has long explored the intersection between atmosphere, melody and subtle experimentation.
The GuestWorlds project emerged as a natural evolution, a space where ambient music, electronic composition, New Age tonalities and field recordings could coexist without constraint. In November 2023 he self-released the debut EP Guestworlds, a four-track introduction that established his approach to sound as environment, intimate yet expansive.
His relationship with the Swiss label Creaked goes back to the early 2010s, when he performed alongside Joe Galen’s band. Under his alias Jason Waterfalls, he contributed remixes to the label’s catalogue, including a rework for Joe Galen on the 5-year anniversary compilation in 2009 and a remix of “Snake” by OY in 2010.
In May 2024, GuestWorlds inaugurated the Creaked Radio series with its first episode, a carefully curated mix featuring artists who helped shape the project’s identity. The selection included works by Emeralds, Skee Mask, Susumu Yokota, Brian Eno, Larry Heard and others. Speaking about the mix, he described these artists as masters of building distinct sound worlds with the simplest and deftest of touches, formative influences that continue to resonate in his own compositions.
GuestWorlds stands for careful construction and patient listening. It is music shaped by repetition, by texture, by subtle shifts in time. A practice of worldbuilding through sound, grounded in curiosity and sustained attention.
